Banking IT Jobs

 

With the evolution of ecommerce, banking IT jobs have become an integral part of financial institutions. Also, most banks use computerized technology for routine services, such as cash withdrawal, deposits, drafts and checking. Hence, banking IT jobs are crucial for the effective functioning of organizational processes. Bank IT officers contribute towards the internal IT infrastructure and net banking facilities.

Banking IT Jobs: Types

Financial organizations have the following banking IT jobs: 
  • Information Technology Manager: The IT manager heads the IT department of the bank. S/he is responsible for the administration of the bank's local and wide area networks, intranet services, wireless connections, telephones and VoIP systems (Voice over Internet Protocol). S/he also supervises proper functioning of the software associated with these services. The IT manager trains existing and new bank employees on how to use banking software for routine activities. S/he keeps the bank's computer systems updated with optimum configuration for work efficiency. S/he ensures stable and secure working of the bank's IT resource systems and deploys networking architecture systems to accommodate IT infrastructure development. The IT manager also holds decision making powers in terms of buying IT hardware or software products.
  • IT specialist: A banking unit has many IT specialists who assist the IT manager in the implementation of his or her duties. They perform IT management tasks, as directed by the manager, and provide technical assistance to users. They are responsible for monitoring illicit usage of the IT systems and scan hardware and software for potential threats.
  • Internet banking manager: S/he is responsible for the smooth functioning of internet banking products and services. S/he supports the bank in the development and implementation of e-banking services. The Internet banking manager investigates customer queries. S/he is assisted by a team of professionals, who help in the execution of his/her duties.

Banking IT Jobs: Entry Requirements

Prerequisites to applying for banking IT jobs are:
  • Graduate degree in computer science from an esteemed institution
  • Specialist course in hardware or software management
  • Ability to handle electronic peripherals
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Good understanding of network operations (both internet and intranet)
 
As IT infrastructure varies between organizations, banks offer training programs for all new employees.
