The Bank of West mainly operates in the Midwest and West of the U.S. through well over 700 banking locations in 19 states. In spite of its current trans-national presence, the Bank of West has retained the attributes of a community bank to be able to provide the customers with enhanced services.
The Bank of West, originally established as the Farmers National Gold Bank in 1874, changed its name to the First National Bank of San Jose in 1880 before finally changing its name once again in 1979. Presently owned by the Paris based French universal bank BNP Paribas, the Bank of West, merged with the First Hawaiian Bank (also owned currently by the same French bank) in the year 1998, as already mentioned, to form the bank holding company BancWest Corporation that sustained the identity of the two different banking organizations.
