South Africa is a lower middle-income economies coming under the Middle East and North American region as to the classification made by the World Bank on the basis of income and region for the year 2006.

The country's economy gets larger support from the agricultural products such as wheat, barley, potatoes, flax and tobacco. Wine and olive oil are also the major areas of concern for the country's production. Major industries of the country are oil, light industry and food processing.
