Belize is an upper middle income economies comes under the Latin America and Caribbean region as to the classification made by the world bank on the basis of income and region for the year 2006

The country's infrastructure backward ness had created larger problems to economic development. But the participation of the international organizations has solved that problem to some extent. The investment made by the Inter-American Development Bank Emergency Reconstruction Fund on Belize's transportation is a step in the same direction. The services sector holds a larger portion in the country's Gross Domestic Product.

Major industries of the country are Sugar, garments, and tourism. The forest products in the country constitutes a huge share in the total exports. Important agricultural products in the country are rice, maize and sweet potatoes
