The International Labour Organization was founded in the year 1919. It is a specialized organization of the United Nations.
It aims at promoting social justice and internationally recognized labour rights. The sole aim of the organization is to set the minimum standards of labour rights, which are as follows:
- Freedom of association
- The right to organize
- Collective bargaining
- Abolition of forced labour
- Equality of opportunity and treatment.
Structure Of ILO
The International Labour Organization constitutes three main bodies. Its structure generally includes Government, Employers and the Workers.
All the member states of the International Labour Organization meet at the International Labour Conference in the month of June each year at Geneva. Each member state represents two Government delegates including an employer delegate and a worker delegate.
The Governing body of the International Labour Organization, which takes decisions on ILO policies meet three times a year in Geneva. It has 28 Government members, 14 employers members and 14 worker members.
