The annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank group are scheduled for Sept 19-20, 2006 in Singapore.
Both the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, the two international organizations have stepped forward with their respective strategies in promoting the world economic environment. IMF is for promoting the international monetary cooperation and providing policy advices and technical assistances to help countries. The World Bank is for promoting long-term economic development and poverty reduction through providing various supports.
Each year more than 10,000 participants join in the meeting. Representatives from the 184 IMF-World Bank member countries will join in the meeting. The discussion will more focus upon the global economic challenges and measures to face the same.
Apart from the delegates, the staffs of the World Bank and IMF, private sector representatives and journalists will take part in the meeting. The delegation from the member countries generally includes Finance Minister, Head of the central bank etc. Around 3,500 numbers of observers, special guests and visitors join in the meeting every year.
Singapore for the first time is going to host the annual meeting. The country has accepted the membership of the IMF and World Bank Group on 3rd Aug 1966. This year’s meeting in Singapore is excepted to make the world’s financial hub more vibrant.

The Meetings venue, Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre, is of the world-class convention centre. It has its own rank in the top ten international convention and exhibition center in the world.
