Noted economists have recently criticized high amount of increase in Vermont tax imposed on cigarettes. They have said that this massive increase in VT tax rates has burned a big hole in economy of this state.
Major reason behind criticism faced by this substantial increase in cigarette tax of Vermont has been fact that it has had significant amount of negative impact on payers of tax in Vermont in these times of immense financial hardships.
Noted economists have recently criticized high amount of increase in Vermont tax imposed on cigarettes. They have said that this massive increase in VT tax rates has burned a big hole in economy of this state.
Major reason behind criticism faced by this substantial increase in cigarette tax of Vermont has been fact that it has had significant amount of negative impact on payers of tax in Vermont in these times of immense financial hardships.
State legislators wish to increase rates of tax at Vermont taken on diesel and gas at a rate of 5 cents. They believe that this decision would be able to generate funds to tune of $120 million in coming three fiscals starting from 2009. This money would be utilized for purpose of using in improving bridges, roads and similar infrastructure of that state.
This particular Vermont tax increase has been described as a perfect way with which to generate revenue for state. Members of Democrat Party have supported this bill but it is being assumed that it would be opposed by state governor Douglas who is an opponent of this particular Vermont tax bill.
He has put forward certain explanations for his opposition of this Vermont tax. He says that in these times of economic recession people staying in this state are already finding it hard to make ends meet – be it food, mortgages or other household expenses. They are also finding it difficult to procure jobs that would help them lead a life with a semblance of respectability. Hence forth any new Vermont tax increase is absolutely uncalled for.
As per recent news House of Representatives has put forward a Vermont tax bill whereby diesel and gasoline taxes have been raised at a rate of diesel and gasoline taxes at a rate of a nickel for every gallon. As per this Vermont tax bill 5 cents would be added to present rate of 19 cents per gallon.
As per an inflation index this Vermont tax rate for gasoline would increase on a yearly basis from 2012 onwards. Primary purpose of this Vermont tax bill is to fund repair and maintenance of roads and bridges in that state. For that purpose $7 million has been added to money that is going to come through taxes.
