The Central Bank of Samoa is the Central bank of the country. It was founded after the Government passed the Central Bank of Samoa Act in the year 1984.

Important objectives of the bank are as follows:

  • Issuing national currency
  • Ensuring internal and external stability
  • Strengthening financial system
  • Promoting monetary and exchange rate in the country
  • Regulating banking business

The bank has various departments dealing with different policy matters.

The bank is administered by the Board of Directors. The Head of the State appoints the members of the board by the consent of the cabinet. The Board of directors comprises of the Governor, who is also the Chairman of the Board, the Finance Secretary and three other independent board members. The Governor looks after efficient management of the banking system.
