The ministry of agriculture primarily deal with matters like agricultural policies, services, pricing, support, programmes and schemes, statistics, weather forecasting, drought management and business. Ministry of agriculture also deal with the technological aspects of agricultural industry. The prime objective of minister of agriculture is to enhance the quality of life of the people by encouraging agricultural production through an array of programs.

They also have duties like setting up assistance programmes to help farmers during their crisis period.
Some other subsidiary activities of minister of agriculture is to supervise the art and science of crop and livestock production management and marketing policies.

Some of the common agricultural policies include emergency response mechanism, support programmes, reprocessing of damaged fertilizers, agricultural mechanization, incentive schemes etc.
Programmes and schemes: Ministry of agriculture set up some programmes and schemes to enhance agricultural productivity. Some of the major ones are preparing agriculture census report, mechanization of technology, plan protection methodology, integrated nutrient management, drought management, macro management , natural resource management, agricultural marketing, trading, taking help of information technology etc.
Pricing policy: One of the main goals of ministry of agriculture is to ensure the security of the producers (farmers) by providing them suitable price of the products. This will certainly boost the growers to produce more.
Agricultural statistics: One of the other activities of ministry of agriculture is to collect, summarize, analyze and publish data regarding agricultural production in form of reports. The report also reveals information regarding total farming areas, yields and stocks.
