Central bankers gather for the 18th International Economic Forum of the Americas, where Alan Greenspan features as one of the keynote speakers. Current issues relating to the world economic situation and geopolitics will be central to this year’s programme, with the particular focus on the following issues: The financial crisis and its impact on the world economy; The cooperative movement; International trade, and in particular the new Americas-European Union economic space; Developing and extracting natural resources.
Independent think-tank, Chatham House, hosts the event Migration: Creating Networks for Business, Politics and Growth. Throughout history, migrants have fuelled the engine of human progress through innovation, the spread of ideas and laid the foundation for today’s global economy. Speakers will argue that the way in which these networks speed up the flow of ideas across borders has profound consequences for business, technology and politics, as well as put forward new approaches for governance that embrace international mobility.

BP publishes Statistical Review of World Energy 2012.
Member States’ contributions to the EU budget could be slashed under proposals by MEPs to reform the EU’s revenue system set out in a draft resolution to be voted on Wednesday, following a debate with Commission President José Manuel Barroso and Commissioner Janusz Lewandowski on Wednesday. The EU’s next seven-year budget plan can only be adopted with Parliament’s consent. The European Council will discuss it for the first time at the 28-29 June summit.
Advertising giant WPP holds its annual general meeting. It is anticipated that WPP could become the latest victim of the “shareholders spring”, which has seen pay revolts at a number of leading companies. However, WPP chief executive Martin Sorrell has defended the controversial compensation packages, worth almost $20 million, arguing instead that WPP’s revenues have grown.
