Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi, the country’s first freely elected civilian head of state, visits China. The two countries are expected to sign cooperation agreements, as well as discuss regional and international issues. Bilateral trade reached $8.8 billion last year, up 40 percent from 2008.

Japan holds government-level talks with North Korea for the first time in four years. The meeting in Beijing is the latest sign of a thaw in the traditionally frosty relations between the two countries.
