India’s 2009-10 budget was released on 6 July 2009. The theme of this budget was ‘inclusive growth’ as the government tries to pull itself out of its massive fiscal deficit. The comprehensive budget included many ambitious goals.
India’s 2009-10 budget was released on 6 July 2009. The theme of this budget was ‘inclusive growth’ as the government tries to pull itself out of its massive fiscal deficit. The comprehensive budget included many ambitious goals.
The budget outlined tax breaks for individuals but not for companies. It also included various plans to stimulate a wide range of industries such as agriculture, advertising, export-based sectors, railways, public services, highways, and more.

Agricultural loans were promised, along with goals of cutting the huge poverty level in half, by 2014.Also in the budget are measures to slash female illeteracy by half in three years.
As of July 2009, the fiscal deficit was 6.2%, with fears of it rising ot 6.8%. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, though, saw no way of closing this deficit, and opted for tax cuts in the medium term.
