Higher Education Loan: HECS-HELP

According to this plan, the Australian government pays for the study costs of students enrolled in a CSP (Commonwealth-Supported Place) course. The remaining contribution is made by students. Holders of Australian permanent humanitarian visa and Australian citizens can pay their student contributions upfront or can request a HECS-HELP loan if they want to repay later. This program is especially meant for undergraduate students. The citizens of New Zealand and Australian permanent resident visa holders, except Australian permanent humanitarian visa holders, are not eligible for this higher education loan. They must pay 100% of the student contribution upfront.

Higher Education Loan: FEE-HELP

One can enroll in a DFEE (Domestic Fee Paying) course if not enrolled in a CSP course. However, there is no subsidy from the Australian government, and one has to bear the full cost of the course. The holders of Australian humanitarian visa and Australian citizens can pay their tuition fees in the following ways:

·        Paying the complete tuition fee upfront

·        Receiving the FEE-HELP loan for the complete fee and

·        Paying a part of the tuition fee upfront and getting the FEE-HELP loan for the rest of the amount.

FEE-HELP loans are available for both graduate and undergraduate students.

Higher Education Loan: OS-HELP

Australian students who wish to go abroad for part or whole of their studies can apply for OS-HELP loan. This program helps students meet the living expenses and the cost of travel associated with overseas studies. UWS (University of Western Sydney) exchange students and students undergoing independent fee-paying study abroad can apply for OS-HELP to help meet their living expenses and /or tuition fees. Postgraduate students are not eligible for this loan.

Official exchange students are given the first preference for OS-HELP loans followed by students enrolled for Independent Study Abroad Programs. If there is still any availability, it is distributed on the basis of academic merit.
