Farmer Insurance Company: History
Established as an auto insurer, Farmer Insurance Company began operations in 1927. John Tyler and Thomas Leavey were the founding members of the company. Initially, the company was named as Farmers Automobile Insurance Exchange.
In the early years, the company focused on operations in small cities. The two entrepreneurs were of the opinion that the customers of small cities are safer drivers than their counterparts in the big cities. So, they concluded that the probability of insurance claims is much higher in big cities than in smaller ones. So, they focused on advancing auto insurance to the small-city automobile owners.
