According to the US Census Bureau, the total estimated population of the state as in 2005 is 775,933 compared to 770,883 in July 2004. Net change in the population of the state 2002-03 is 0.5%. In US Census 2000, the total population in the state was 754,844.
Population Density is 10.1 per sq mi.
With regards to the Racial Distribution 2000, White 88.7%; Black 0.6%; Asian 0.6%; Native American 8.3%.
Business and Economy of South Dakota
The Gross state product in 2001 was $24.3 billion. Per capita personal income in 2003 was $29,234. Among the top businesses the Chief Industries include agriculture, services and manufacturing.Important Manufacturing goods in the state are food and kindred products, machinery, electric and electronic equipment.
Major Crops are corn, soybeans, oats, wheat, sunflower and sorghum.
Livestock (Jan 2004): 3.65 mil cattle/calves; 370,000 sheep/lambs; (Jan 2003): 1.26 million hogs/pigs; (Dec 2003): 3.7 million Chickens.
Apart from this Gold is one of the state’s leading mining product.

Electricity Production (est. 2003, kwh by source): Coal 3.4 bil; Petroleum 16 mil; Gas 109 mil; Hydroelectric 4.3 bil; and Other 6 mil.
Tourist Attraction Of South Dakota
Tourism and gambling are the major revenue sources for the state. The important tourist places of the state are as follows:
