According to the US Census Bureau, the total estimated population of the state as of 2005 is 4,255,083 in comparison to 4,198,068 in July 2004. The net change in population for 2002-03 is 1.1%. According to US Census 2000, the total population of the state is 4,012,012. The density of the population in the state is 137.7 per sq mi.

With regards to the Racial Distribution (2000): White 67.2%; Black 29.5%; Asian 0.9%; Native American 0.3%.

Business and Economy of South Carolina
The Gross State Product in (2001) was $ 115.2 billion and the per capita personal income in 2003 is $26,132.
Among the Various sectors of the economy, Chief Industries include tourism, manufacturing and agriculture.
Important Manufacturing goods are textiles, chemicals, allied products, machinery and fabricated metal products, apparel and related products.
Major Crops are tobacco, cotton, soybeans, corn, wheat, peaches and tomatoes.
Livestock (Jan 2004): 425,000 cattle/calves; (Jan 2003): 300,000 hogs/pigs; (Dec 2003): 6.8 million Chickens.
