Florida Economy : Florida as a state was admitted to the United States on March 3, 1845. It is located in the southeastern of the United States. It is situated mostly on a large peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Straits of Florida. It is bordered on the north by the states of Georgia and Florida and on the west. It is near the countries of the Caribbean, particularly the Bahamas and Cuba.
The state owns a total geographical area of 65,755 sq mi; with a land area of 53,927 sq mi; and total acres forested 16.3 mil.
The estimated population of the state in the year 2005 was 17,789,864 with a growth rate of 2.3% from the previous year. According to the census 2000, the total population of the state were 15,982,378.
The density of the population of the state is calculated at 315.6 per sq mi.
According to the racial distribution (2000) report: 78.0% white; 14.6% black; 1.7% Asian; 0.3% Native American.
Business and Economy of Florida
The gross state product of Florida in 2003 was $550 billion. The per capita personal income was $30,098 having a rank of 26th in the nation.
The Chief Industries of the state are tourism, agriculture, manufacturing, construction, services and international trade.
The Chief Manufacturing goods of the state are electric and electronics equipments, transportation equipments, food, printing and publishing, Chemicals and instruments and industrial machinery.
The Chief crops of the state are citrus fruits, vegetables, melons, green house and nursery products, potatoes, sugar cane and strawberriers.
The Major livestock are (Jan 2004): 1.74 mil. Cattle/calves; (Jan 2003): 30,000 hogs/pigs; (Dec 2003): 13.3 mil. Chickens.
Space Industry In Florida
The space industry of Florida represents $4.5 billion. The average annual wage of aerospace workers is approximately $52,000.
The number employed at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) alone is 15,000 and Florida ranks 4th among the states in overall aerospace employment with 23,000 jobs.
Tourist Attraction Of Florida
In the year 2004 there was a total number of 76.8 million visitors. The state is the top travel destination in the world. The tourism industry has an economic impact of $57 billion on Florida’s economy. The tourist places of the state are as follows:
