Doing Business- Reforms Among Nations

Reform process among various countries over the world have become faster in 2006-07. Over the time period of April 2006 and June 2007, more than 200 reforms are introduced among 98 economies. Simplification of business regulations, strengthening of property rights, increasing access to credit and reducing costs on exports and imports comes under reform processes.

Countries across Eastern European region and Central Asian region have reformed their economies most followed by the South Asian region.

Top ten reforming countries over the world for 2006-07 are as follows:

  • Georgia
  • Colombia
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Kenya
  • China
  • Bulgaria

    Egypt is found to be the best reformer for the year 2006-07.

    Among various emerging economies China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Turkey, and Vietnam have also improved in doing business.

    As to the Chinese new property law, private property rights have equal importance like state owned property rights.

    India in the process of reforms have allowed traders for submitting custom fees through online, even before the arrival of the cargo in the port.

    In Russia a new Credit Bureau is established, while in Indonesia investor protection have been raised.

    In African region, Ghana and Kenya are marked to be the top reformers.

    Doing Business- Entry Criterian

    In doing business, the case of entry criterian was very popular among nations. Thirty Nine nations made the entry criterian simpler and faster.

    In Saudi Arbia bureaucratic hindrances are removed and now it is easier to start a business.

    Goergia’s amendments to securities law has made it safe for investing.

    Doing Business-Women Participation

    In the doing business report countries having good rankings largely reflects a higher women participation. In Mexico the participation among the women was higher.
