The Annual Plan for Delhi for the year 2007-08 has been finalized at a meeting between Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission Shri Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Chief Minister of Delhi, Mrs. Sheila Dikshit.
The total Annual Plan size has been agreed at Rs. 9000 crores for the year.

The total Annual Plan size has been agreed at Rs. 9000 crores for the year.
Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, complimented the State government for achievements particularly in the sectors of infrastructure and education. He said Delhi being the National Capital needs to develop infrastructure comparable to best in the world. Since Delhi is hosting Common-wealth Games in 2010, it would provide an opportunity to showcase Delhi as World class capital to the visitors. The State Government is also appreciated for significant improvement in the green cover. The total forest and tree cover which was 151 sq. km in 2001 has increased to 268 sq. km.
He said the State Government should take lead in promotion of public private partnership approach. Besides physical infrastructure, public private partnership should be initiated in social sector projects. Road network has improved and State Government is working out comprehensive plans to improve power supply. He said electricity distribution programmes through private sector has been successfully completed during Tenth Plan. The State Government was advised to promote rain water harvesting and develop all water bodies on priority.
The Chief Minister Smt. Shiela Dikshit said that besides plan performance, the State government initiated number of measures aimed at promoting transparent administration through release of citizen charters by all public dealing departments, implementation to Right to Information Act, public grievance commission and application of IT for improvement of services to citizens.
She said major achievements during Tenth Plan period include completion of first phase of metro, construction of 26 fly-overs and commissioning of first phase of 330 MW generation plant. She said 23 new school buildings and 7000 new classrooms for Delhi government and NDMC schools were constructed. During this period, 9 new hospitals with 1500 additional beds were constructed. Stamp duty was reduced from 13 to 8 per cent and for females it has been brought down to 6 per cent.
During Eleventh Five Year Plan, housing for economically weaker sections will be taken on top priority. New modes of public transport in addition to new corridors of metro under phase-II will be introduced to provide safe and convenient public transport system. For safety of pedestrians, adequate number of subways and foot over bridges will be constructed. Interceptor sewers system will be laid along three major drains at a cost of more than Rs.3000 crores. Sewerage system will be provided in all villages and unauthorized colonies being regularized. High embankment walls would be constructed along major drains to stop damping of waste.
