There are a total of 39 cement companies in the USA with 115 cement plants operating in 36 states. According to statistics available for the year 2005, the largest cement manufacturing company in the USA contributes 13% to the total production while 56% of the total cement production is done by the top five cement companies. There have been large scale investments in this sector especially during the 1980s. A number of Asian and European companies invested in the U.S companies with the rise in value of the U.S dollars.   US Cement Industry Production and Growth
Production and growth of cement industry in USA is dependent on the construction industry. It is an indispensable component in almost each and every form of construction. Cement trade in the United States is seasonal in nature as the maximum consumption takes place between May and October. Most of the cement industry is found to be concentrated in one particular region. This is because cost of transportation or shipping of cement is greater than its actual value. As much as 96% of manufactured cement is transported on trucks.

Cement industry in the United States has undergone rapid growth in recent years. The upward swing began in 2006 and continues till date. This was due to the initiation of projects worth $1.8 billion. At present eleven cement plants are under construction. Some projects have already been started by firms like Cemex Inc, American Cement Co., Keystone Cement Co, Florida Rock Industries, Texas Industries Inc, Buzzi Unicern USA, Continental Cement Co, Rinker Materials and Holcim. Ongoing projects are scheduled to be completed by 2009 and are expected to increase cement making capacity by 12.7 millions tons per year.

US Cement Industry Labor Force Scenario
The cement industry in the United States of America has absorbed a sizable section of the available labor force. However, available statistics indicate that employment opportunities in this particular sector have declined over years. In 2005, employment in US cement industry reduced at a rate of 23% in comparison to early 1980s. Closing down of relatively smaller kilns and use of automated machines led to drop in available employment opportunities.
