The bank of Guyana is the central bank of Guyana founded in the year 1965. Since then the bank has been functioning with an objective of maintaining an overall stability in the country. According to Bank of Guyana Act No.19 of 1998 the Central Bank of Guyana is an autonomous body.

- Smooth functioning of the financial system
- Management of Foreign Exchange Reserves
- Smooth functioning of financial system
- Maintenance of Internal and External public debt
- Control over money supply and interest rates
The board of directors at the bank makes the decisions regarding the policies and guidelines of the bank. . The President of the bank appoints the Governor of the bank and the Minister of Finance appoints the Deputy Governor, Banking Manager and other Directors of the Board.
