The number of credit cards more than doubled in a decade from one million in 1997 to 2.3 millions in 2007. The number of credit card transactions increased from 59 million in 2000 to 114 million in 2006.

American Express has a range of credit cards for Irish customers. MasterCard has the MasterCard Europe / Maestro products and Visa Inc offers the Visa/Electron range. Diners Club credit cards are also available.
