Demography And Social Indicators

Idaho is one of the Rocky Mt. States in the United States. It is bordered by Montana and Wyoming, Utah and Nevada, Oregon and Washington and the Canadian province of British Columbia.

The state has a total geographical area of 83,570 sq mi; with a land area of 82,747 sq mi; and total acres forested is 21.6 mil.

The economy morely relies upon the agriculture sector. From estimation it is found out that one third of the total potatoes consumed in United States are produced by Idaho.

Demography And Social Indicators
The total estimated population of the state in 2005 was 1,429,096 in comparison to 1,393,262 in July 2004. The net change in the population of the state in 2002-03 is calculated at 1.7%. The density of the population of the state is 16.5 per sq mi.

According to yhe US Census 2000, the total population of the state is 1,293,953.

With regards to the racial distribution (2000): 91.0% white, 0.4% black, 0.9% Asian, 1.4% Native American.

Business and Economy of Idaho
The state’s gross domestic product for 2004 was US$43.6 billion. The per capita income for 2004 was US $26,881. The major Industries of the state are manufacturing, agriculture, tourism, lumber, mining and electronics.

Chief manufacturing goods of the state are electronic component, computer equipment, processed foods, lumber and wood products, chemical products, primary metals, fabricated metal products and machinery.

Important crops of the state are potatoes, peas, dry beans, sugar beets, alfalfa seed, lentils, wheat, hops, barley, plumps and prunes, mint, onion, corn, apples and hay.

The livestock of the state (Jan 2004): 2.01 mil cattle/calves; 260,000 sheep/ lambs; (Jan 2003): 26,000 hogs/pigs; (Dec 2003). Though the dependence of the state on mining has declined still the state is a major producer of the Silver and lead.

Apart from this the Idaho Natioanal labortary is a Government labortary for the nuclear research situated in the eastern part of the Idaho Economy.

The important tourist attractions of the state are as follows:
