The total estimated population of the state in 2005 is 928,670 in comparison to 926,865 in July 2004. The net change in population 2002-03 was 0.8%. According to the US Census 2000, population in the state was 902,195.
The population density is 6.3 per sq mi.
With regards to the Racial Distribution 2000: White 90.6%; Black 0.3%; Asian 0.5%; Native American 6.2%.
The unemployment rate in the state 2003 was 4.7%.
Business and Economy of Montana
According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the total state product in 2003 was $26 billion with a per capita personal income of $25,406 in the same year.
Chief Industries of the state are agriculture, mining, timber, tourism, oil and gas.
Important manufacturing goods of the state are food products, wood and paper products, primary metals, printing and publishing, petroleum and coal products.
Major Crops are wheat, barley, sugar, beets, hay and oats.
Livestock of the state (Jan 2004): 2.4 mil cattle/calves; 300,000 sheep/lambs; (Jan 2003): 170,000 hogs/pigs; (Dec 2003): 485,000 Chickens.
