Kansas is a midwestern state of the United States. It is bordered by Missouri, Oklahoma, Colorado and Nebraska.
The state constitutes a total geographical area of 82,277 sq mi; with a total land area of 81,815 sq mi; and acres forested in the state is 1.5 mil.
In the past the state was considered to be one of the agricultural based state. But in the today’s world manufacturing and the services sector have surpassed the agriculture sector. Still today Kansas is a leading producer of wheat in United States.

In the census year 2000, the total population of the state was 2,688,418.
The net change in the population of the state 2002-03 was 0.4%.
The population density was calculated at 33.3 per sq mi.
With regards to the Racial Distribution 2000 the major groups are: 86.1% White, 5.7% Black, 1.7% Asian and 0.9% Native American.

In 2003 the total Gross State Product of the state was US$ 93 with a per capita personal income of $29,935.
The Chief Industries of the state are manufacturing, finance, insurance, real estate and services.
Major Manufacturing goods of the state are transportation equipment, machinery and computer equipment, food and kindred products, printing and publishing.
Important crops of the state are wheat, sorghum, corn, hay, soybeans and sunflowers.
Live stock of the state (Jan 2004): 6.65 mil. Cattle/calves; 100,000 sheep/lambs; (Jan 2003): 1.63 mil. Hogs/pigs.
Apart from this the meat packing and dairy industries are the major economic activities in the state. The food processing industry in the state ranked as third largest industry in 1990s.
