In Mexico, insurance is different from what you would find in the United States. In this article, we want to cover information about Mexico insurance company policies. We also wanted to address the right way to get a great policy at an affordable price when buying from insurance companies in Mexico. Insurance in this country has actually been doing well over the past decade, which for consumers and insurers is great information.
While there are similarities with policies through a Mexico insurance company and other countries differences also exist. The good news is that insurance in this country is doing better than many other countries are, offering a wide selection of coverage types and premiums. Part of the reason for the success of insurance companies in Mexico has to do with the organization that regulates and oversees insurers. Known as the Comision Nacional de Sequros y Flanzas, this organization has worked hard to make a difference.
Another reason that insurance companies in Mexico are doing so well is due to the quality of companies that are selling policies. For instance, some of the top choices for a Mexico insurance company include MetLife, Inbursa, Argos, BBVBA Bancorner, GNP, ING Commercial America, and Seguros. However, some of the other companies that are making insurance in Mexico good include Zurich and Qualitas.
It is important to understand that American and Canadian insurance policies are not accepted in Mexico. For this reason, if you travel to this country and plan to stay for several months, you should consider purchasing a travel or residency policy through one of the trusted insurance companies in Mexico. That way, if you were to become ill or injured or if you were driving a vehicle in that country, you would have protection.
Per Mexican laws, only policies purchased through a Mexico insurance company would be legitimate and valid. In addition, Mexican laws state that in the case of a traffic accident, damages could be from a civil and criminal standpoint. For this reason, if you were driving your car over the border into Mexico, to be admitted you would be required to show proof of car ownership with a deed or title, or if driving someone else’s car, you would need a notarized letter from the owner giving you permission to drive.
Of course, you can purchase a policy from any number of insurance companies in Mexico but just as with any other country some are good and some not so good. For this reason, you want to make sure you buy the policy of choice from a reputable company. For instance, if you wanted to buy car insurance from a Mexico insurance company you could buy it within the country or on the other side of the border prior to entering Mexico.
The government of Mexico does not currently ask that automobiles be insured although they strongly recommend liability coverage be purchased. However, if you plan to drive in this country, temporarily or as a permanent resident, we strongly suggest you take the time to research different policies, buying coverage. Just as with other countries, you can also purchase a homeowner’s policy, business policy, life insurance policy, and so on from any Mexico insurance company that specializes in that type of coverage.
