Tips on USA Insurance Claim Settlement

1. Don’t Be Hasty: One should make an effort to find out the market value of the loss incurred. Usually, US insurance claims settlements are designed in a way that the insured gets the lowest possible amount. Moreover, if one is going through serious trouble (usually personal), it is advisable not to pick a fight with the insurance carrier during that period. This may lead to devaluation of one’s claim.

2. Resist the first settlement offer: Do not jump at the first offer of settlement. One can also leverage the internet to check value sources or consult an attorney. Rejection may result in wastage of time, which the insurance carrier can use to increase uncertainty and pressurize the insured to accept the rejected offer.

3. Be persistent: Insurance carriers appoint adjusters who present themselves as experts in claim settlement. They offer the claimants a range of the settlements that is inherently unfair and pays less than the actual. Claimants who settle within the offered range more often get underpaid. Also, one should be aware of follow-up offers made by adjusters.

4. Documenting US insurance claims: One should not accept any verbal promises or advice from adjusters, since they usually have bad news to give. It is preferable to record everything or get it in writing. It is also recommended that one gets the commitment in written from the adjuster and all letters are faxed. The claimants have a right to get complete explanation from the insured about the settlement.

5. Be polite: The policyholders should not lose their temper at any point and remain polite at all times. It is of no use to take out one’s frustration on the adjusters. One should stay calm even during phone conversations and be respectful.

6. Appeal the denial (of a claim): Sometimes policyholders do not understand the settlement and may not agree to it. In such cases, they can appeal the denial of the claim.
