Aviva Insurance: Company History
Formerly known as CGNU, Aviva Insurance was created in 2000 with the merger of CGU plc and Norwich Union. In July 2002, the company changed its name to Aviva. In 2006, Aviva acquired the established financial services firm AmerUs Group. This widened its presence in the US. The company traded under the name ‘Norwich Union’ until it was formally named Aviva in the UK in June 2009.
