The Lebanese economy is strongly driven by its services industry, particularly tourism and financial services, with 75.8% of economic activity derived from the services sector. Although Lebanon is know for its agricultural exports, agriculture only contributes 5.1% of GDP.

The Lebanon industry sector drives 19.1% of GDP and employs 26% of the total 1.481 million workers. Industrial activity is concentrated around the Beirut and Mount Lebanon areas. Almost 60% of firms are located in these two cities. Northern Lebanon hosts around 19% of manufacturing activity.

Lebanon Industry Sectors: Diversification

Lebanese industry is limited by red tape and restrictions, although there has been some improvement in recent years.. There is a decent amount of FDI, driven in part by the Lebanese diaspora which is now present in virtually every country in the world

Core industries in Lebanon include banking, tourism, food processing, wine, jewelry, cement, textiles, mineral and chemical products, wood and furniture products and metal fabricating.

Lebanon Industry Sectors: An Insight

With abundant forests, Lebanon has a thriving wood industry. From woodcutting to furniture making, the wood industry is well developed both for domestic consumption and exports. Other industries are:

• Plastic industry: This industry manufactures different types of advertising products, plastic containers, plastic tubes and various domestic and household materials. These plastic products are exported as well.

• Textile industry: This industry has picked up lately and has increased its share of employment opportunity as well. The readymade, knitted garments and spinning mills have contributed a lot to the Lebanon industry sector. 

The Paris III Donor Conference helped Lebanon with more than $7.5 billion for developmental projects. However, it is conditional to the way in which the Lebanon economy grows. Therefore, many instrumental changes have been made in the economy so as to make it immune to financial as well as political vagaries, and this has contributed to consistent growth in the years since the Israel-Hezbollah war.
