Natwest Bank (National Westminster Bank plc) is a commercial bank in the UK. The bank is better known as Natwest and has been a part of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group since 2000.[br]

Natwest Bank was established in 1968 when the National Provincial Bank and the Westminster Bank merged together. Due to this merger, Natwest grew to be one of the four biggest clearing banks in the UK and has a network of 1,600 branches and over 3,400 cash machines. Natwest offers a robust 24×7 customer service and online banking service. In 2009, it had more than 7.5 million customers and 850,000 business accounts.

Natwest Bank: Genesis

The bank’s genesis can be traced back to 1650, when Smith’s of Nottingham was founded. However the modern bank only started functioning in 1968 and Natwest started trading on 1st January, 1970.

 

The ‘Three Arrowheads’ was adopted as the bank’s logo and symbolized circulation of money. ‘Three’ arrowheads were also chosen to represent the three constituents of the bank namely: National Provincial, Westminster and District Bank.
