UniCredit, in partnership with Mastercard, has unveiled its enhanced pre-paid, credit, and debit cards incorporating the Mastercard Touch Card technology. This project seeks to improve accessibility for visually impaired individuals.

The Mastercard Touch Card implements features designed to aid visually challenged individuals in differentiating between their bank cards. Remarkably, the design features side notches, enabling card identification via tactile feedback.

The Initiative Seeks To Foster Independence For Visually Impaired Individuals

Mark Barnett, the President of Mastercard Europe, stated that at the heart of Mastercard’s principles lies the principle of inclusion. He added that the new card serves as a prime example of the company’s dedication to the norm of payment cards, fostering inclusivity.

Barnett further noted that the team is pleased to collaborate with UniCredit to provide consumer-focused solutions that improve accessibility for everyone.

Starting in Italy, the new cards are currently accessible and are set for gradual circulation over the course of 2024. The cards will be available to customers in the twelve nations where UniCredit conducts its operations, covering roughly 20 million cards

The introduction of the Mastercard Touch Card is in line with UniCredit’s commitment to inclusivity. By offering resources that foster independence for individuals with vision challenges in both online and in-person transactions, the initiative seeks to cater to the requirements of around 30 million people with sight loss in Europe.

UniCredit Is Committed To Supporting Customers Through Sustainable Practices

Environmental impacts are taken into account, as the cards are made from recycled PVC. Every card displays the Mastercard Eco-friendly card badge, verifying its sustainability credentials.

The Chief of Group Payment Solutions at UniCredit, Alberto Palombi stated that Strengthening communities means guaranteeing that all individuals have access to the financial resources they require.

He added that this is why the company is pleased to reveal the incorporation of notches into their cards for Visually impaired customers. And the cards are manufactured using approved sustainable materials.

Palombi further noted that Banks have a significant role to fulfil in fostering a more improved world. This is another method by which the firm aim to demonstrate to their customers that it’s committed to supporting them
