Stellantis is optimistic about the financial outlook of its German subsidiary, Opel. The Franco-Italian carmaker believes that Opel will manage to sustain operations as a separate brand.

Stellantis optimistic about Opel’s outlook

Stellantis’ Europe Chief, Uwe Hochgeschurtz, commented on this development, saying that he was pleased with the Opel brand and its wide range of products and services. In an interview with Automobilwoche, Hochgeschurtz noted great brand development capacity.

Hochgeschurtz noted that the design center in Russelsheim was one of the most advanced ones in the company. He added that German factories maintained a steady workload, meaning they had a secure future.

The executive further argued that the loss of market share by the company was primarily attributed to the lack of adequate transport capacity to transport the cars to the sellers. He said that the car brand has secured clients and had finished cars, but these cars did not get to where they were intended.

“Given the lack of truck drivers, there is only limited transport capacity. That’s why we have offered sales people to come and pick up the cars themselves in our depots,” Hochgeschurtz said. He further added that Latin America, North Africa, and Turkey were a good market for Opel products. However, its key market was Europe.

Luxury carmaker Jaguar commits to European expansion

The European automotive industry is fast growing, with luxury car maker Jaguar Land Rover expanding its regional operations. The company said it was creating three new engineering hubs in Europe to support the creation of autonomous vehicle technologies. The initiative is part of the company’s partnership with Nvidia.

The three engineering hubs are situated in Bologna, Madrid, and Munich. They will be instrumental in creating self-driving systems for the next generation of luxury cars created by Jaguar Land Rover. The carmaker now has six technology hubs in China, Europe, and the United States.

The carmaker said that the company selected the locations of the three European tech hubs because of the availability of experts in digital engineering. The company is also planning to create around 100 engineering jobs related to developing driver assistance systems and setting up artificial intelligence for self-driving cars in the future.

It is not the first time that Jaguar land Rover is partnering with Nvidia. Last year, the two companies unveiled a multiyear agreement deal. Through this deal, the companies plan to work together to create the computer brains and the nervous systems needed for Jaguars and Land Rovers that will be released in 2025 and beyond.

Through this partnership with Nvidia, it will be possible for Jaguar Land Rover to have a fully funded ally as the company attempts to be competitive against other electric vehicle manufacturers, such as Tesla and other luxury vehicle competitors within the digital technology sector. The electronic vehicle industry has grown significantly in recent years.
