Korean tech giant Samsung recently revealed that it is joining Mastercard’s new Wallet Express program. By teaming up with Mastercard, Samsung hopes to make it easier for card issuers and banks in the UK to offer access to its own multi-faceted mobile wallet to their customers.
Samsung Wallet is a relatively new product, which was only launched last year. However, it offers a variety of features and benefits to the users. For example, it brings together Samsung Pay and other features that let users organize their boarding passes, digital keys, identification cards, and alike.
All of it is available in a single app, which makes it user-friendly and more convenient to manage.
Furthermore, by incorporating Mastercard-issued Wallet Express, users will be able to offer Samsung Wallet to their customers. In turn, customers would have new options when it comes to making payments, one of which includes Galaxy wearables.
Samsung Wallet brings greater flexibility of payments
Mastercard Europe’s EVP for product and innovation, Valerie Nowak, commented on the new partnership. She said that the company is proud to have Samsung join its Wallet Express program and offer a broader range of choices to consumers.
Nowak added that Samsung Wallet offers seamless integration into their banking experience, which allows flexibility when it comes to deciding how consumers would make payments. They can use their favorite Galaxy mobile or wearable devices to do so.
Samsung Electronics Europe’s Vice President, Teg Dosanjh, also commented on the new development. Dosanjh said that the Samsung team is excited to join Mastercard’s Wallet Express and offer greater payment flexibility to consumers. They can now make payments almost anywhere they need to.
Dosanjh added that millions of people already opted to use Samsung Wallet, and the new partnership will give even more users the same opportunities. With Samsung Wallet, they can use the safe and secure Samsung Pay service on their Galaxy device of choice.
Digital wallets on the rise in the UK
Samsung’s statement also addressed the state of digital wallets in the UK. It noted that local consumers are becoming increasingly interested in digital wallets for both online and in-store payments.
Meanwhile, Mastercard’s Wallet Express saw huge success after launching. As a result, the company is also setting up the launch of the next two iterations for 2024 for all issuers in the Europe region.
The new Wallet Express Issuuer Enablement Program seeks to further simplify the process for issuers. It will do so by enabling and facilitating Samsung Py, thus offering the users one of the largest digital wallet platforms. Program participants will be able to enhance their capabilities to support the wallet, and ultimately empower consumers with full payment options.
