Pepperstone, a retail brokerage firm based in Australia, has partnered with Geelong Cats. The latter is one of Australia’s leading football teams competing in the country’s top league. The partnership will see Pepperstone expanding its sponsorship presence in the sports industry.

Pepperstone partners with Geelong Cats

Under this sponsorship deal, Pepperstone will emerge as the Official Online Trading Partner for the Geelong Cats. The partnership deal was brokered by Bastion, an agency based in Melbourne.

Pepperstone published a social media post confirming this partnership, saying that the company was proud to be part of the Australian Football League community, given that the broker has its roots in Australia. “Together, we will chase greatness. Go CATS!” the company said.

Australian Rules Football is one of the most popular sports in the country. This sport includes locally developed rules and is a hybrid of soccer and rugby. The sport also features some components of basketball, lacrosse, football, and volleyball, making it one of the most interesting sports in the country.

While this sport is increasingly popular in Australia, it does not have much viewership in other countries. It is more of an indigenous sport in the country, and in 2022, it had a viewership of more than 6.75 million, a notable accomplishment for an in-country sport.

Geelong Cats is one of the leading competitors in the sport. During the previous season, Geelong Cats emerged at the top of the table and won the cup. The team reported a notable increase in club membership, which is a positive sign for Pepperstone, as it could increase the reach of this brokerage platform. However, the broker has not announced the marketing channels it will explore.

Increase in sports sponsorship deals

Brokerage platforms have increasingly become drawn toward sports sponsorship deals as a form of marketing. European football has become particularly interesting, and online brokers spent around $125 million on football deals during the 2020-2021 season.

Football sponsorship deals have increased significantly. Some brokerage platforms have also secured notable deals with some leading football clubs, while some prefer to support the local team.

eToro is among the leading brokerage firms that secured partnership deals with a dozen British and German football clubs in September 2020. The strategy was followed by IC Markets securing a sponsorship deal with 12 La Liga and Bundesliga clubs.

Besides football, brokerage teams also secure partnership deals outside the football sector. In November last year, RoboMarket secured a partnership deal with the AEL women’s volleyball club. ICM.com also secured a branding deal with SailGP Team in France.

Rugby is one of the leading sports attracting brokerage firms. Saxo Bank sponsors Harlequin FC based in the UK, while CMC Markets secured a deal with the New Zealand professional rugby team. Pepperstone also secured a deal with one of Australia’s leading local cricket teams, Adelaide Strikers.
