Paythru has partnered with Adyen to develop a new electric vehicle (EV) charging payments platform designed to simplify and unify how drivers pay at charging stations.
This collaboration aims to create a seamless, global payment system that supports a wide range of payment methods. It is designed to make the charging experience easier and more convenient for EV users around the world.
According to the companies involved, most EV drivers currently use credit or debit cards by tapping payment terminals or kiosks. Other methods include charging cards (RFID), smartphone apps, and ‘Plug & Charge’ technology. Some stations also accept online payments or QR code payments.
Adyen Aims To Make EV Charging Payments Simple And Seamless
To fix the problem of different payment methods at various stations, EV expert Paythru has teamed up with Adyen to build a payments platform that works everywhere.
Adyen’s system, already used by big names like Spotify and Uber, accepts lots of payment types—credit cards, digital wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay, and bank transfers. It also supports many local methods, whether online, in person, or through apps.
With this new platform, drivers can pay however they want and get perks like clear prices, emailed receipts, and real-time updates. It will support over 100 payment options across more than 100 countries, including mobile wallets and fleet cards. The platform also works with plug and charge tech that helps with energy use and two-way charging, plus it lets operators and fleet managers customize their interfaces.
Nicole Olbe, managing director UK&I at Adyen said that to help more people switch to EVs, charging needs to be simple. That means not just lots of stations but also easy ways to pay. Drivers shouldn’t have to use lots of apps or deal with confusing prices.
Paythru And Adyen sets To build The New global EV payments Platform Together
Working with Paythru, Adyen is making a global payment system that’s smooth, reliable, and clear. Open payment standards help build trust and speed up the EV switch.
Keith Brown, managing director at Paythru, said the firm want the EV charging experience to be all about the driver, not the gear. He emphasizes that getting payments right is the first step.
Moreover, Partnering with Adyen lets Paythru combine its know-how with great payment tech to build a solution that works worldwide and focuses on the user. Right now, Brown added that messy systems, apps that don’t work together, and unclear prices are slowing down EV growth.
