Online payments giant PayPal recently brought its new advertising platform to the UK, seeking to tap into its massive storage of user data to assist merchants in better targeting their ads.

Thanks to its new ads platform, PayPal Ads, merchants can target customers with personalized offers based on past purchases and user-specific data.

The business will also include PayPal’s advanced offers platform, which has been live since 2024. This platform aims to give merchants the ability to reach customers based on their actual purchases, down to the stock-keeping unit and individual products.

Brands Must Switch To New Advertisement Methods To Grow

While PayPal intends to roll out its service in full, it will not do it all at once, but rather, it plans to launch it in phases. But, customers should start seeing personalized ads beginning in July of this year.

Commenting on the service, PayPal Ads’ SVP and GM, Mark Grether, stated that commerce and advertising are deeply connected. He noted that the team at PayPal Ads knows this well, and believes that the advertising solution that they are building will become a must-use marketing and revenue channel for all merchants, regardless of size.

Grether, who previously worked for Uber, was hired to build PayPal Ads’ product last year.  He further noted that brands often need a partner that can help them reach empowered shoppers, especially in the current world where shopping is agentic and invisible, but also everywhere.

“PayPal – and its wealth of consumer knowledge – will help brands and merchants not only respond to demand but also thrive in this new commerce ecosystem,” he concluded.

In its announcement, PayPal Ads also noted that commerce is undergoing a major seismic shift, with consumers looking for a simplified yet personalized shopping experience that can be provided instantly and everywhere. PayPal Ads can offer just that, and many reports have shown that brands must capitalize on the new ways that consumers are using to find their products or services if they wish to grow their businesses.
