In January 2009 when President Obama and members of his administration came into office, they saw USASpending.gov as a potential propaganda tool and the utility of the site became an open issue.

Now, nearly five years after it was authorized, USASpending.gov is at the center of a growing scandal on Capitol Hill as questions are raised about $1.3 trillion of federal spending that doesn’t show up on the site.
The Sunlight Foundation’s John Wonderlich, who has led the effort to track down an explanation for the missing $1.3 trillion, testified this week before a House subcommittee.
