Nexi Germany, a branch of the paytech Nexi Group, has signed an agreement with the European Payments Initiative (EPI) to integrate Wero, a European mobile payment system. Nexi has received the licence to connect merchants and service providers to accept Wero payments.
Together with its partner Computop, Nexi will support merchants in adopting the new European digital wallet payment method. Initially, the service will focus on e-commerce and later extend to physical retail locations. Computop will provide the necessary technical interfaces for Wero, which is managed by EPI.
Nexi And PPRO Strengthen Wero’s Expansion In European Digital Payments
Carola Wahl, leader of Nexi DACH, explained that Wero’s account-to-account transfer system reflects the solutions Nexi is promoting: intuitive, scalable, simple, and pan-European.
She added that Nexi, as a founding member and shareholder of EPI, is actively contributing to the development of the future of digital payments.
Martina Weimert, leader of EPI, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Nexi to help expand Wero’s use among online merchants in German e-commerce.
Additionally, local payments platform PPRO has become a principal member of EPI for Wero. PPRO’s membership will allow clients to access Wero through several channels, including sponsored associate membership, payment facilitator services, and technical gateway access. PPRO’s support for Wero will cover both e-commerce and in-store payments.
Wero Expands Across Europe With Focus On E-Commerce And Merchant Services
Motie Bring, leader of PPRO, shared excitement about their new role, highlighting that PPRO will provide clients with unparalleled access to the latest European payment system, enabling customers to pay using local methods.
Weimert added that the partnership with PPRO marks an important step forward in making payments faster and easier for both merchants and consumers across Europe. After successfully starting with peer-to-peer transactions, the next step is to roll out Wero’s e-commerce functionality.
Wero has already been launched in Belgium, France, and Germany, with plans to expand to other European countries soon. The service currently supports peer-to-peer (P2P) payments, and further integration into e-commerce and small merchant services is planned
Meanwhile, Liberis Group, a global leader in embedded finance, has teamed up with Nexi to enter the German market. This partnership, managed through Liberis Debt Fund GmbH & Co. KG and Liberis Debt Fund Management GmbH, will introduce ‘Nexi Financing,’ a service powered by Liberis. The initiative aims to support 120,000 merchants by providing flexible financing options to help them grow and sustain their businesses.
