Nike has launched its non-fungible token (NFT) platform called .Swoosh. According to the top footwear giant, .Swoosh’s core mission is to onboard millions of users into the booming Web3 ecosystem.

.Swoosh To Host First Series Of Virtual Collections

According to a recent tweet, .Swoosh would host Nike’s first series of virtual collections, which is expected to launch fully in the first quarter of next year.

The virtual collections will be digital wearables and apparel, accessories, virtual shoes and jerseys, and other landmark collections.

.Swoosh is expected to be an inclusive Web3 platform that would cater to the unique needs of athletes, creators, collectors, and users to design and direct the future of sports. Aside from offering access to the booming Web3 ecosystem, Nike’s new NFT platform would also grant access to physical goods and services while allowing users access to real-life events and meetups with designers and athletes.

Nike’s NFT service is still in its development phases, and the team says it will spend the remaining month of the year growing its consumer base in anticipation of the full launch.

However, users will be able to register for the beta phase once the access portal is launched later this month.

These early community members would be trained on what the Web3 ecosystem is all about in anticipation of the 2023 virtual collection drop.

When the NFT collections drop, users can participate in a community challenge to stand a chance to co-create virtual collections with the Nike Virtual Studios team. The winners can earn royalty payments on the virtual goods and services they participated in co-creating.

Speaking on the new development, GM of Nike Virtual Studios, Ron Faris, said .Swoosh would offer a pathway into a new digital arena for its customers and all NFT lovers. He also said that the NFT platform would work in close quarters with the Nike team to create platform users can create, share, and benefit from together in line with the true spirit of Web3.

Three Web3 Brands By Nike

.Swoosh is the latest addition to Nike’s growing portfolio of Web3-focused brand services. In 2021, the footwear giant acquired virtual sneakers and collectibles company RTFKT. Following .Swoosh’s launch, RTFKT’s communications, and experience lead @ycxcRTFKT stated that both Web3 brands would be looking for potential points of collaboration to enhance the fledgling ecosystem.

RTFKT’s digital collectible characters called Clones would potentially get access to .Swoosh ID registration to participate in the unfolding ecosystem. He also stated that Nike’s future releases would become digital wearables for its Clones characters.

Aside from .Swoosh and RTFKT, Nike also launched a virtual world called Nikeland in the boom of the NFT frenzy in 2021.

All three NFT solutions operate using similar technology infrastructure, but they are considered separate services by the Nike team. The footwear is instead looking to create an ecosystem for all Web3 users.

Famous Apple Co-founder’s Sandals Sold As NFT For $200k+

Despite losing the battle to pancreatic cancer in 2011, Steve Jobs of the famous Apple brand is still blazing the trail, this time in the NFT landscape. According to a recently concluded NFT auction on Julien’s live, Jobs’ favorite sandals have recently sold for $218,570.

The one-on-one collection was sold as an NFT alongside the original Birckenstofs sandal. The real-world item also has the foot imprints of Jobs, who was known to wear it in the then Apple HQ.

These recent forays of legacy-based businesses show a growing interest in blockchain-based assets and cryptocurrencies.
