  • Facebook has been unable to maintain a consistent position in the Top 10 of the US App Store.
  • BeReal, a new social media app, exploded in popularity around the same time Facebook’s foundations shook.
  • Mark Zuckerberg told reporters in 2016 that he expected Facebook to have 5 billion users by 2030.

This year, Facebook has been unable to maintain a consistent position in the Top 10 of the US App Store. So far, in 2022, it has fallen out 97 times, a significant increase from 7 in 2021. These figures reveal Facebook’s problems, which have arisen due to the emergence of relatively new apps such as BeReal and TikTok.

To provide more context, Sensor Tower (an app intelligence firm) reported that Facebook was removed from the list 59 times in the first half of 2022. Things aren’t looking good for the 2004 luminary compared to 2021’s.

While the maximum number of consecutive days it had spent on the outskirts of this list was capped at two days in 2021> Whereas, the social media giant has already surpassed that number by 35 days, even though 2022 is only halfway over.

According to the Pew Research Center, Facebook use among US teenagers has plummeted. Only 32% of teenagers surveyed by Pew said they used Facebook. That’s down from 71% in the researchers’ prior poll, which was carried out between 2014 and 2015.

Facebook’s Dominance Challenged by Up-and-Coming Apps

BeReal, a new social media app, exploded in popularity around the same time Facebook’s foundations shook. The French photo-sharing app encourages users to post only one unedited photograph daily, a novel approach to social networking.

Teenagers are flocking to the bandwagon in droves, unable to pass up such an exciting and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

According to data.ai, an app store data provider, while April brought in a slew of new supporters for BeReal, Facebook hit rock bottom. On April 21, the app ranked 44th.

Do you think Facebook is a hopeless cause?

While it is unable to reclaim its former glory, this is not to say that Facebook has abandoned the social networking game entirely. These rankings reflect the app’s ability to attract new users to its platform and do not consider existing user activity.

The app’s monthly active users remain among the highest of any social networking app. Facebook has been around the twenty-first century and remains a top choice for many millennials and older generations. Its massiveness cannot be overstated with billions of users. Itcompetes with top competitors such as Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat.

Mark Zuckerberg told reporters in 2016 that he expected Facebook to have 5 billion users by 2030. On the other hand, the present does not appear to be in his favor, as new apps continue to threaten its position on top lists. Only time will tell if Facebook can live up to its full potential.

Zuckerberg’s Business Won’t Collapse

Even though Facebook isn’t as popular as it once was, that has nothing to do with Meta’s fortunes. Instagram, WhatsApp, and a number of other social media and non-social media-related businesses are all owned by the same parent firm.

Zuckerberg’s declaration that Facebook would shift its focus to the metaverse in the future indicated the company’s determination to maintain its prominence and advance its mission of digitizing every aspect of human life.

Facebook has declared profits of $117 billion in 2021 alone, so its relative fall in market share does not appear to be a concern in terms of profits and sales.
