Microsoft has said that it is broadening access to ChatGPT, a chatbots that has become increasingly popular across the internet. ChatGPT is a chatbots created by OpenAI, and there are rumors that Microsoft is planning a huge investment into the company.

Microsoft to expand access to ChatGPT

According to Microsoft, the technology provided by the tech startup would be more available, which could accelerate the usage of the software. Microsoft has already previewed the chatbots to its cloud-computing users through a product known as the Azure OpenAI Service.

The news of Microsoft’s plan to grow access to ChatGPT comes as the tech giant looks at making an additional investment on top of the $1 billion that it invested in OpenAI in 2019. Reuters noted that Microsoft planned to expand its investment in the software company.

A report by Semafor, had earlier said that Microsoft could invest $10 billion in OpenAI. Microsoft and OpenAI have yet to come out publicly to talk about a proposed acquisition deal. However, the deal is likely, given the attention that the chatbot has received, with the potential of the software exciting Silicon Valley.

Interest in OpenAI heightened in November following the release of ChatGPT. The latter is a text-based chatbot that can create poetry, prose and even write a computer code when prompted to do so.

The chatbot is powered by artificial intelligence but unlike most chatbots that gather information from the internet, ChatGPT has been trained on vast amounts of data to provide responses. Microsoft is now allowing more customers to access this technology.

Microsoft has also revealed its plans for ChatGPT through a blog post saying that the chatbot itself would soon be available through Microsoft cloud. The tech giant has also said that it is vetting the applications made by customers to ensure the software was not abused.

The company also has filters that are used to look for harmful content that might be input by users or produced by the technology. The actions are being taken to promote the safe use of the software.

Increased interest in ChatGPT

There is much business potential in the ChatGPT software, venture capital investments have shown interest in pouring funds into the startups developing it, which is commendable, as VC funding has dried up across many industries.

Some companies are using the technology to market their content, while some are using it to provide educative services to their clients. Microsoft has also noted that top companies like CarMax and PMG were using its Azure OpenAI service.

A press release from the company has also noted that the vice president of Al Jazeera is also considering adopting the service, saying that it could help the media company to translate and summarize content.
