Payment giant Mastercard has announced the expansion of its Biometric Checkout Program. According to the announcement, the program will now include tests at Red Expres for Tienda Inglesa in Uruguay.
The project collaborates with Scanntech, Fujitsu Frontech, Fulcrum Biometrics, and Ingenico. The pilot will enable shoppers at Red Express to pay using their palms. It comes with features that will allow them to enter their biometrics during registration on the platform.
After the registration, they can place their hand over a sensor at the payment terminal. This method makes it easier and faster, reducing checkout waiting times. Apart from its ease of use, the platform’s loyalty program offers rewards for its loyal customers.
The System Provides A Quick And Secure Payment Option
The Checkout Program, launched by Mastercard and developed by Ingenico and Fulcrum Biometrics, is a new technology that will set the standard for payments in-store.
The system lets users quickly connect their palm biometrics to a credit, prepaid, or debit card. This means that users do not need a device or wallet to pay for services.
Global Head of PalmSecure Business and Corporate Vice President of Fujitsu Frontech, Takahiro Matsumura, commented on the development. He noted that the new technology will ensure a more secure user environment.
The biometrics will be more convenient for users since they don’t need their devices or passwords for checkout. The new system will reshape the next generation of payments for Ingenico via the Mastercard partnership program.
Mastercard rolled out a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency pilot program for customers in Latin America and Europe in another development. The goal is to make transactions in digital currency easier and more efficient.
Mastercard Wants To Launch The Biometric System Across Several Regions
The program will also secure and simplify cryptocurrency transactions by removing the complexities of transfers between blockchain addresses. The program is now available in over ten countries, including Uruguay, Brazil, and Argentina. The service will facilitate domestic and cross-border transfers across various blockchains and currencies via exchanges like Mercado Bitcoin, Lirium, and Bit2Me.
Mastercard’s first journey with the Biometric Checkout program was in Brazil two years ago. Last year, the payment giant extended the program’s reach to the Asia Pacific. It plans to expand the biometric pilots to more countries later this year.
The goal is to expand to all countries Mastercard gradually has its presence to make it easier and more secure for users to complete transactions and make payments. The new technology could see its adoption by other major firms.
