Monday, June 4

The World Economic Forum on the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia opens in Turkey. The meeting will have over 1,000 politicians and business leaders convene in Istanbul, where discussions will focus on new partnerships for growth and human development, and how the social dynamism unlocked by developments in the Middle East and North Africa be transformed into a decade of entrepreneurial opportunity, human security and good governance.

Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development in Brazil. The Conference will focus on two themes: A green economy in the context of sustainable development poverty eradication; and the institutional framework for sustainable development.

Tuesday, June 5

The annual World Islamic Banking Conference opens in Singapore. Leading industry players are expected to make further advances towards achieving global connectivity and deepening economic cooperation with other key centres for Islamic finance. The event is held in conjunction with the Asia-Middle East Investment Summit.

Gulf Cooperation Council foreign ministers meet in Saudi Arabia.

Russian president Vladimir Putin embarks on an official visit to China. Putin, who began a historic third term as president less than a month ago, has already made official visits to Germany and France but will be symbolically visiting Beijing before the United States. His visit will see him forge closer ties with China, a key diplomatic and economic ally for Russia.

The International Caspian Oil and Gas exhibition and accompanying conference begin in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The International Monetary Fund day-long Conference “Lessons from the Recovery in the Baltics” opens in Riga, with policymakers, academics and civil society representatives addressing political, economic and social factors that made the adjustment in the Baltic countries feasible.
