With 2022 being only hours away from its end, some interesting reports regarding the state of the financial industry this year have started to come out. One example is a statement published by Euronext, in which the company said that the value of money raised from the issuance of ESG (Environment, Social, and Governance) bonds hit a new ATH.
The statement says that the value exceeded 1 trillion EUR in 2022 and that this year has seen the listing of more than 310 new ESG bonds. The exchange recorded the listing of more than 7,800 new bonds on its markets this year in total.
Euronext’s report for 2022
Euronext’s statement went into greater detail, explaining that there were 83 new equity listings in 2022, which brought a capital raise of around 3.8 billion EUR. Meanwhile, the aggregated market cap at listing ended up being 23 billion EUR.
Moving on, the company noted that around half of the new equities registered this year, were on behalf of tech firms. This ended up being the case even after the market infrastructure provider came up with the Euronext Tech Leaders segment earlier this year, in June 2022. The company commented on the segment, saying that it caters to leading and high-growth technology companies.
As such, it attracted around four new issuers, and it brought the total number of issuers to over 110, in this category. The issuers are both from the public and private equity markets, and they are responsible for an aggregated market cap of around 0.8 trillion EUR as of December 29th.
Euronext reports more impressive figures
The company’s statement also confirmed its position as Europe’s leading equity-listing venue, as well as the global leader in debt listing in 2022. The firm said that it is a home to nearly 400 large-cap issuers and over 1,500 SME issuers. Furthermore, it is still continuing to attract leading companies from all industries and all corners of the world.
Large-cap companies have continued their patronage of a large number of listing options on the company’s markets. Of course, some have chosen the traditional IPO, but many became listed by first de-coupling from their parent firms. Some have even decided to take a different route and go for the Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC) approach.
One of the biggest examples of companies that opted for an IPO (Initial Public Offering) is Var Energi. Euronext describes the firm as the most valuable company that deals in oil exploration and production to conduct an IPO globally in the past decade. During the offering, Var Energi managed to raise 774 million EUR, with a market cap of 6.9 billion EUR at the time of the listing.
