On Monday, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan requested that Elon Musk, the Chief Executive Officer of Tesla, consider building a Tesla factory in Turkey. Turkey’s communications directorate conveyed this request. Erdogan wants Tesla to construct a manufacturing facility in the country. The goal is to increase the production of Tesla and electric vehicles in Turkey.

Erdogan And Musk Are Open To Working Together

Musk stated that several Turkish suppliers are already partnering with Tesla. He also emphasized that Turkey is the number one choice for the location of Tesla’s next factory. This indicates that Turkey is a strong contender for hosting Tesla’s factory, given the present supplier relationships and its significance in the company’s considerations.

According to Turkey’s state-owned Anadolu news agency, Musk and Erdogan have talked at the Turkish House, a skyscraper close to the United Nations in New York. The two leaders discussed various matters.

In their meeting, Erdogan said that Turkey is willing to cooperate on AI and Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet project steered by Musk. Erdogan is open to working together in these aspects.

Musk stated that SpaceX is interested in working with Turkish authorities to procure the needed license to make Starlink satellite services available in the country. SpaceX is eager to navigate the regulatory process to provide its satellite internet services in Turkey.

Tesla To Build Another Factory In Mexico

In late September, Erdogan invited Musk to the Teknofest, a Turkish aerospace and technology festival in Izmir. Musk replied positively, expressing his desire to attend the event.

Musk is also meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister, on Monday in California. Musk said on the social media platform X that their discussion will mainly center around AI technology.

Tesla manages six factories and is constructing a seventh one in northern Nuevo Leon state, Mexico. This growth is part of Tesla’s efforts to expand its presence worldwide.

Back in May, Musk mentioned that Tesla had plans to select a site for a new factory by the end of the year.

Tesla’s shares have seen a significant increase of 123% in value this year. Moreover, over the weekend, Tesla stated that it had produced its five millionth vehicle. “Congratulations Tesla Team! That’s a lot of cars”, Musk wrote in a retweet to the news.

Aside from his role at Tesla, Musk is also the Chief Executive Officer of X, previously known as Twitter, which he purchased for $44 billion in 2022. Although he identifies himself as a proponent of free speech, Musk has decided to meet specific requests from the Turkish government to limit content within the country.
