A look at the diversity of the population in terms of nationalities, ethnic groups, tribes, sects, language groups and religions. Although not always the case, countries that are more homogenous tend to be more stable, while countries that have more diversity tend to have more social unrest, as has been the case in the Balkans, Lebanon and Iraq. This some times leads to greater economic inefficiency, although in some cases socio-political systems allow the economy to take advantage of that diversity, as has been the case in the US.
