Deutsche Bank announced yesterday, December 17, the launch of its app, Wero, on the international market. According to the announcement, Wero will provide simpler and more sovereign digital payments in Europe, and it will be available to the clients of both Deutsche Bank and Postbank, allowing them to send money and shop online internationally.

Wero App Goes International

The Wednesday announcement reads: “Effective immediately, Deutsche Bank and Postbank are offering their clients the full range of functions of the new digital payment app Wero. Since the beginning of the week, clients of both banks have been able to send and receive money in real time to family and friends across Europe with Wero, as well as pay in participating online shops.”

According to the statement, Postbank clients, who have already been able to transfer money to personal contacts with Wero since November 2024, have now been given the e-commerce function.

Commenting on the expansion to international payments, Deutsche Bank’s Head of Personal Banking, Dominik Hennen, said: “Following the successful launch at Postbank, we are very pleased to offer the full range of Wero’s functions at Deutsche Bank and Postbank.” He added that Wero is a decisive step toward a unified European payment landscape, as it can offer an innovative solution that simplifies private and e-commerce payments, even across national borders.

Wero Can Be Used In Everyday Life

The bank’s Head of Merchant Solutions, Kilian Thalhammer, also commented on the app’s international launch, saying that it is crucial that people can easily use the European payment solution in their daily lives in order for Wero to succeed.

“As The Global Hausbank, we not only offer Wero to our private clients, but are also a partner for European merchants and fintechs. We help them seamlessly integrate Wero as a payment option and reach their clients in Germany and four other European countries,” Thalhammer added.

Another comment on the launch comes from the CEO of EPI Company, Martina Weimert, who said that the launch of WEro in Germany is a strong signal for the reachability and market penetration in the country.

“We are very pleased to see Wero now enabling fast, secure P2P money transfers for all Deutsche Bank and Postbank customers, as well as instant and seamless payments at merchants that already accept Wero across Germany. This marks an important step toward a truly European payment solution,” she noted.

Wero’s goal is to establish a unified mobile payment service using a resolutely sovereign digital wallet for all of Europe. Its range of functions will be gradually expanded over time, adding things like management of recurring payments, such as subscriptions, as well as payments at the point-of-sale and brick-and-mortar retail
