BNP Paribas has shared that it is setting up a new space in its data centers to host IBM Cloud services. This is part of its ongoing efforts to improve the reliability of its systems, and to follow rules set by the EU’s Digital Operational Resilience Act (Dora).

The bank said this new step is meant to help keep its banking services, like payments, running smoothly without breaks. It also wants to ensure that its customer data and information systems stay safe and secure.

BNP Paribas Aims To Boost Innovation With New Tech Investments

BNP Paribas also noted that its extended partnership with IBM will give it access to GPUs through IBM Cloud. These tools will support different departments in trying out and using new ideas with generative AI.

The bank added that it is also focusing on improving how it builds and runs applications. By using microservices with Red Hat OpenShift, a tool from IBM, the bank plans to build smaller, easy-to-manage apps, especially in areas like payments.

Marc Camus, Chief Information Officer at BNP Paribas, explained that the bank keeps investing in new technologies to make its systems stronger. He said these efforts are also meant to bring fresh ideas and better service to customers, staff, and partners.

Camus also shared that the bank is bringing together GPU services and a modern setup inside its data centers to support its technology. He said this approach is helping to keep their systems safe and in line with important rules.

The bank also said it had decided at the end of last year to start using Oracle’s Exadata Cloud@Customer for its on-site databases. According to BNP Paribas, this move is expected to help it access Oracle’s smart tools faster, reduce delays in how systems talk to each other, and still keep control of its own data.

BNP Paribas Seeks To Stay Strong Globally While Honoring Its European Roots

BNP Paribas is a global banking group based in Paris. It was created when two well-known French banks—Banque Nationale de Paris and Paribas—joined together.

The bank has operations all over the world, including through companies like Fortis Bank in Belgium and Banca Nazionale del Lavoro in Italy. It is seen as one of the biggest banks in both Europe and worldwide, with over 190,000 workers.

The company works in three main areas: personal and business banking services, savings and insurance, and large-scale banking for companies and investors.

Even though BNP Paribas is a French bank, the Belgian government has owned a large part of it since after the group took over Fortis Bank Belgium. That bank’s roots go back to one of Belgium’s earliest financial institutions.
