Spanish banking group Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, (BBVA) is increasing its use of artificial intelligence, agreeing with OpenAI to begin implementing ChatGPT to thousands of employees.
The first European bank to partner with OpenAI, BBVA has started using 3000 ChatGPT Enterprise licenses among workers to boost efficiency and productivity, while encouraging innovation.
BBVA Aims To Ensure Widespread Access To Chatgpt Across The Organization
OpenAI, the technology behind ChatGPT, will also provide training and offer the latest updates for its big language models. BBVA believes that by closely collaborating with the tech company, it can advance the most effective use cases.
The bank is already distributing licenses at its central services in Spain, and this procedure will continue in the group’s other main regions. Mandatory training will be provided for each account set up. The goal is for all departments and areas to have access to ChatGPT, so that licensed workers can work together on projects.
Recently, BBVA held a generative AI ‘DataRally’ with its staff to find and train talent in using the large language models (LLMs) that power tools like ChatGPT.
BBVA’s global head of data, Ricardo Martín Manjón, stated that he thinks generative AI, when used safely and carefully, can greatly change how they help their customers make decisions and provide personalized services. It also encourages their employees to be more creative.
BBVA Will Leverage AI Technology To Improve Decision-Making Processes For Customers
Brad Lightcap, Chief Operating Officer of OpenAI, also stated that his team is happy to work with BBVA, one of Europe’s top banks, to bring ChatGPT Enterprise to many users. AI helps with boring tasks, making people more creative, efficient, and productive.
Elena Alfaro, the new Head of AI Adoption at BBVA, stated that she sees this first step with ChatGPT Enterprise as a way to prove how these tools can really increase their productivity, changing how everyone works at the bank. BBVA goal is to improve it employees’ skills, not to replace them. Moreover, Alfaro is responsible for spreading this technology throughout the Group.
Alfaro also stated that ChatGPT Enterprise won’t be the only tool they use even though it plays a crucial role in their plan. BBVA is still looking at other tools that might be useful for the more than 100 projects planned for 2024.
BBVA is one of the biggest banks in the world. It operates mainly in Romania, Italy, Turkey, South America, Mexico, Portugal, and Spain, its headquarters.
