Two climate activists have taken their protest against climate change to a new level. They glued themselves to Francisco Goya’s frames of two paintings at the Prado Museum in Madrid.

The two paintings were “La maja desnuda” and “La maja vestida”. According to reports, they were protesting against the 2.7 F warming cap established by the 2015 Paris Agreement. In their protest, they marked “+1.5°C” on the wall between the two paintings, signifying the temperature cap.

The Spanish polish confirmed that the actions of the two protesters didn’t cause any damage to either painting. “We condemn the protest that took place in the museum,” the Prado Gallery tweeted, adding that although the work is intact, the frames have suffered slight blemishes. The museum said that putting cultural heritage in jeopardy as a means of protest is highly unacceptable. Both activists were arrested and detained after the incident on Saturday.

The Activists Are Protesting Rising World Temperatures

The two activists are protesting as world temperatures continue to rise despite all the global efforts to fight climate change. The group said in Spanish that the rising temperatures can lead to an unstable climate with heavy consequences for everyone on the planet.

Climate activists have intensified their efforts to create awareness of the consequence of a worsening climate to humanity. The protest is the latest in a series of other similar protests by climate activists targeting popular artworks in European museums.

More Climate Activists Vow to Continue Protests

A day before the protest on Goya paintings, another group of activists poured pea soup on a Vincent van Gogh masterpiece in Rome.

The Sower is a 1988 painting by van Gogh which depicts a farmer sowing his land under a dominating sun. But the painting was protected by a glass and was undamaged after the protest. Reports on the incident revealed that four artists were arrested in connection to the protest.

Climate activists from Last Generation called the protest a “desperate and scientifically grounded cry” that should not be seen only as mere vandalism. The group threatened that the protests against climate change will continue unless something significant is done about the rising temperatures.
